United swapped places with their Buckingham Athletic counterparts last night as defeat saw Witney drop to the bottom of the table.
Things started brightly enough on the half hour when Evans Boland opened the scoring but then right on the interval the home side levelled matters up.
Within eight minutes of the second half starting the home side had taken the lead and although United huffed and puffed barring an excellent save from the keeper from a Calum Hazel effort they never really troubled the home side.

There was derby day disappointment for United's youngsters last night when they went down to a defeat at the hands of North Leigh.

After a tight opening the home side took the lead midway through the first half and the scoreline remained the same at the break.

Two goals in a ten minute spell just after the hour saw the home side take control before a strike from Calum Hazel with ten minutes remaining gave United a glimmer of hope.

However it was to be North Leigh who had the final say scoring with two minutes remaining to clinch an emphatic victory.

United collected their first point of the season and at the same time brought Bicester Town's 100% start to an end in an entertaining 3-3 draw at Marriotts Stadium.

It was United who struck first through Evans Boland but the visitors levelled things up only for Kristian Thomas to score and put United back in front.

A dreadful two minutes saw the visitors take a 3-2 lead but United were not to be denied and Thomas deftly chipped the keeper five minutes from time to level matters.

United almost snatched a win in the dying seconds when Thomas was denied a hat-trick by the crossbar.

A poor second half showing left United's youngsters on the end of another defeat after an excellent first half display had sent them in at the break in the ascendancy.

It was the home side who struck first on 13 minutes with a penalty but just two minutes later a superb individual effort by Kristian Thomas brought the scores level.

Things got even better six minutes before the break when United took the lead with Sam Wright grabbing his fist goal of the season.

However it was a different story after the break as the home side poured forward and netted six times without reply.

07-10-07 Oxfordshire Youth Cup 1st Round

A winner five minutes from time by Lawrence Ashby was enough to give United victory in this 1st Round tie and set them up for a trip to Goring Robins.

United got off to a great start after only five minutes when Calum Hazell slotted home from the penalty spot for the opening goal.

The home side came back into the game though and on the half-hour mark brought the scores level.

With the game heading for extra-time there was joy for United when Ashby fired home and send them through.

There was no joy for United’s youngsters last night as they lost their opening league fixture of the season 3-2 to Abingdon Town squandering a 2-0 lead in the process.

There was a dream start for United when on five minutes Ryan Hunt pounced to open the scoring.

Things got even better with only ten minutes on the clock when United made it 2-0 this time with Kristian Thomas scoring as United took the game to the Abingdon.

The visitors settled down and just after the twenty minute mark they pulled one back to go in at the interval with just a one goal deficit.

After the break it was a different story though as the visitors upped their game significantly and they added two further goals without reply to complete the comeback and clinch the points.

United’s youngsters were made to suffer FA Youth Cup agony last night when they crashed 6-0 at Milton United last night.

It was a disastrous start for United who found themselves 2-0 down in the opening 10 minutes courtesy of an own goal and some slack defending.

They managed to find their feet though and kept the scoreline the same until the interval thus still giving them hope of launching a fight back.

However their world crashed in after the break with the home side adding a further four goals without reply in the opening 25 minutes of the half.

Things got worse in the last ten minutes when Ryan Hunt was stretchered off with a neck injury on his 18th birthday although the extent of the injury was not yet known.

A young Witney side were put to the sword last night although the outcome of the tie was always in doubt until six minutes from time.

The opening period was goal-less with United defending bravely against a side whose first team compete in the Blue Square Conference South. In fact Maidenhead struck the woodwork on no less than three occasions.

The second half saw United hold out until just after the hour when the visitors finally made the breakthrough with the opening goal.

With six minutes remaining United were still in touch but when the second goal went in the energy was sapped from the side and three late goals sent Maidenhead through to the next round.

04-09-07 U18's 1 - Witney Nomads 1 (mens team)

A New look U18,s first game was a triumph. Playing for the first time a mixture of U18's & U16's the combination was a great success with spells of lovely passing football. The U18,s squad welcomed their younger team mates and to their credit the youngsters did not disappoint. said Tom Amer its always great when a plan works, when Paul Bircher gave us this opportunity our first thought was to play a mixture of 18's with our stronger 16's, theirs a long way to go but the signs are promising. Well done all thank you Paul for entertaining us at short notice and to Gary for your help with registrations.

to help, said Tom Amer " Paul & Gary have done a great job with the 18's over the years, they are still very much part of the team here, in fact our first involvement, last night's visit of (Newbury who played our 18's & 16's see reports) was so enjoyable and a great success because of the hard work Paul & Gary put in. A special thank you to Paul's wife, who made sure we were all watered, fed & made very welcome, thank you.

Wayne & I involved Teggy & Rob, in our opinion the best coaching team in the county to ensure our 16's received the very best instruction, we are pleased to offer the same to the 18's. With all our help we look forward to many more great nights like last night & many successful seasons.

United went down to a defeat in their opening pre-season friendly last night against Thame United at Marriotts Stadium.

Honours were even for an hour as neither side could make any breakthrough but three goals in the final hour were enough to give Thame victory although manager Paul Bircher was pleased with the performance of a number of his new charges.
